Do you really need to get the fairing for the thule roof rack system?

I read the reviews and they seem that peope thin that they are cheaply made for the price. I am going to be carrying kayaks on the roof of a chevy aveo.|||No but it will make the car a bit more fuel efficient when the rack is empty and will reduce the wind noise.
